I am delighted and honoured to have the opportunity to introduce to you our college of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
OCTCM is a member of the Federation of Traditional Chinese Medicine Colleges of Canada (FTCMCC). The Acupuncture and TCM Practitioners programs at OCTCM are designed to meet and exceed the educational requirements of CTCMPAO towards Registered Acupuncturist (R. Ac) and Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner (R. TCMP) certification. Our graduates are eligible to attend the national examinations held by CARB-TCMPA.
As the population ages and as the number of people suffering from the effects of overpopulation, environmental pollution, unhealthy diets and lifestyles continues to increase, concerns about healthcare services has attracted attention from enthusiasts, politicians, communities and medical professionals worldwide. People’s needs can no longer be fulfilled with temporary solutions to illness and pain. As we educate our communities on the long-lasting effects of holistic-based medicine, we see a greater demand for practitioners of complementary medicine in North America. As a traditional healing treatment that dates back 2,500 years, Traditional Chinese Medicine has gained a reputation for its success in treating a variety of diseases and illnesses; and predominantly, for its effectiveness in prevention. We can’t help but noticing the increasing demand for acupuncturists and TCM practitioners worldwide.
TCM encompasses a view of healing that integrates body, mind, and spirit, which aims to restore the body’s natural harmony and balance. Such modalities as acupuncture, tuina (Chinese Medicinal Massage), herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, moxibustion, and qigong (Chinese Energy Cultivation) are implemented to help achieve lifestyle adjustments and betterment.
The purpose and goal of OCTCM is to introduce students to the most advanced theoretical and practical TCM training available in North America. We endeavor to prepare and train graduates to become caring, ethical, and highly effective practitioners in the fields of Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, tuina massage and qigong. Furthermore, we are in affiliation with several well-known TCM universities in China; our students have the opportunity to receive superior training within Canada from world renowned guest lecturers, and to participate in our annual clinical internships in China.
At OCTCM, you will experience an engaging and innovative academic environment that is founded from our compassionate and caring college community. Numerous opportunities to practice TCM are provided to help advance and accelerate our students’ successful in the professional field. Our graduates have found their paths in private TCM clinics, health and wellness clinics, hospitals, as well as partnership with other medical professionals. Some of them also founded their own clinics and become TCM instructors to conduct research in the field of complementary medicine. The choice is yours, while we provide measureless possibilities.
I am significantly honored to have the support from a most exceptional team of instructors and faculty members who dedicate to assist our students in pursuing their goals as practitioners of TCM. Since OCTCM was founded in 1998, we have gained a respectful reputation for our outstanding faculty and comprehensive academic programs. At OCTCM, we are committed to help you achieve your professional and personal goals, and we are highly honored to have the opportunity to assist you with your studies and practice of TCM.
