COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a beginner’s class for anyone who wants to be conversant in Mandarin. Students will learn and practice through in-class conversations in Putonghua (the standard Mandarin spoken in China and Taiwan).
Students will get comfortable speaking in a safe, supportive environment. You will start with an introduction to pinyin, the standard phonetic system that sounds out Chinese characters using the English alphabet. It will allow familiarize beginners with the five tones, apply them to common phrases, and then naturally build up vocabulary and correct grammatical use.
This is an intuitive and engaging way to get familiar with Mandarin among other like-minded individuals who want to learn how to be conversant.
